when using phasors the notation commonaly used is VmCos(wt+θ).  if you graph the cos and sin functions you see that cos lags behind cos at the angle of 90 degres.
In the first graph you can see that v(V) is 5cos(t)  in phasor form is 5angle(0 ) and that i(A) is sin(t) in phasor form is 1angle(-90), v(v) lags i(A)
In the second graph you can see that i(mA) is a 4sin(t) in phasor form is 4angle(-90) and that v(V) is -10sin(t) in phasor form is -10angle(-90), i(mA) lags v(V)
