Work done = Area under curve = Force*distance
Part A:
W = (1/2)40*3
     = 60 kJ
Part B:
W = (1/2)40*1
     = 20 kJ

(A). work done  W = Area of the triangle
                              = ( 1/ 2) base * height
                              = 0.5 * 3 km * 40 N
                              = 0.5*3000 m * 40 N
                              = 60000 J
(B). work done = Area of the triangle = ( 1/ 2) * 1 km * 40 N
                                                         = 0.5 * 1000 m * 40 N
