In an RLC series circuit the capacitive reactance is 24 Ω.  If the AC frequency doubles, what will be the resulting capacitive reactance?
a.  24 Ω
b.  12 Ω

Given :

            Capacitive resistance (XC1)  =  24 Ω
.
            and   f2    =  2  f1 
.
            We know that :
.
                     XC   =  1 /2πf C 
.
            From the above equation , Capacitive resistance is inversly proportional to frequency.

         or  XC1 * f1  =     XC2 * f2   
.
         or      XC2     =   ( XC1 * f1  ) /  f2   
.
                             =   (24 *  f1 ) / ( 2 *  f1 )   =  12 Ω      
.
