1.      A block attached to a spring with an unknown spring constant oscillates with a period of 4.0 s.  What is the period if:

a.       A.The mass is doubled?

b.      B.The mass is halved?

c.       C.The amplitude is doubled?

d.      D.The spring constant is doubled?

Equation:  T = 2π√(m/k)

a) Ta= 2π√(2m/k) => √2 (2π√(m/k)) => √2 T0 = 4√2.

b) Tb = 2π√(m/2k) => (1/√2)(2π√(m/k)) => 1/√2 T0 => 4/√2

c) Amplitude has no impact on the period. So it just equals 4.

d) If the spring constant is doubled, the equation is the same as b, so it is again 4/√2.
