Question Details:
You push a 2.2 kg block against a horizontal spring, compressing the spring by 26 cm. Then you release the block, and the spring sends it sliding across a tabletop. It stops 76 cm from where you released it. The spring constant is 400 N/m. What is the coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the table?

1/2 k x2 = μ m g * .76     all of the energy of the spring is dissipated by friction
μ = k x2 / (2 * .76 * m g)
μ = 400 * .262 / (1.52 * 2.2 * 9.8) = .825
