Question Details:
A gravitron ride at a fair consists of a large cylinder of radius 15.0m, spinning about its vertical axis of symmetry. The rider is held to the inner cylinder wall by static friction as the bottom of the cylinder is lowered. If the coefficient of static friction between the wall and rider is 0.8, then how many revolutions per minute must the cylinder execute?

Response Details:
μ Fc = m g        where μ Fc   is the frictional force supporting the rider
Fc = m v2 / R = m ω2 R
ω = √(g / (μ R)) = .904 / sec
f = ω / (2 π) = .144 / sec = 8.63 / min
