Question Details:

To study the effect of temperature on yield in a chemical process, five batches were produced at each of three temperature levels. The results follow.

Temperature

50°C 60°C 70°C
39 34 28
29 35 33
41 38 33
44 27 35
37 31 36

  1. Construct an analysis of variance table (to 2 decimals, if necessary).

Source of Variation Sum of Squares Degrees of Freedom Mean Square F
    Treatments  _________ ___________   ____  _____
    Error  _________   ___________   _____
    Total  ________  __________

  2. Use a .05 level of significance to test whether the temperature level has an effect on the mean yield of the process.

Calculate the value of the test statistic (to 2 decimals).
     ______

    The p-value is
less than .01
betwwm .01 and .025
between .025 and .05
between .05 and .10
greater than .10

What is your conclusion?
Conclude that the mean yields for the three tempertures are not all equal
Do not reject the ssumption that the mean yeilds for the three temperatures are equal
